It was raining when we drove up the two-lane highway through the long tunnel of trees that led into the black district on the south end of St. Martinville.

Big fan of the Levitation album here. Now who was that drummer?

And a fantastic Hawkwind comeback for Huw Lloyd Langdon.

NP (again)

I often overlook this one but I shouldn't - it is extremely robust (and seminal)

Us prog boys have always been romantic souls, as this gem by Matching Mole proves:

I always liked it,
but for me, the new remaster (Hades box set) brings out the beauty of this one.
Think it was the first time they used the original master tape (for CD release)

Richie Havens has a great voice and sounds amazing on the two tracks he sings on. Randy Crawford is very good too. Steve Walsh is the other vocalist and he suits Narnia just fine (better than Hackett singing it himself).

Yes, Baker's drumming really puts this already fine album on another level.

All good points Ray - well made.

I rate Havens and Crawford very highly in the vocals department but it is just a problem I have with albums that contain a range of different vocalists. The flow of the album is lost in my opinion.

Unfounded and probably bloody nonsense but I know it's my cross to bear.

I'll give it another listen....

Hoping Love Will Last is a track that would only work with a singer like Randy Crawford. It's a very un-Hackett like song and it sounds like he deliberately wrote it with a female singer in mind and the way it seamlessly leads into Land of a Thousand Autumns is really wonderful. It's strange really to think he was dabbling with soul music long before Phil Collins embraced it.

I generally don't like their 80s albums but this is an exception. The CD comes with a plethora of decent bonus tracks too so it was quite a fertile time when they recorded it.
