Cliff nearly clinches it for the run he had in the seventies, when he was undeniable.

Cliff met Elvis on his summer holidays in Florida in 1959 and sold him his soul.

Neither man was the same again - but Cliff was passed some bad-man spirit from E after he died in 1977. Hence 'Devil Woman' and all the naughty stuff Fonz references in his post. No coincidence, that 'run'

I hate Cliff Richard

Cliff is basically the personification of all that is wrong with the world.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's considered too edgy, modern or experimental around here.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Actually though I am old enough to remember Cliff being touted as the British Elvis, and making sort of rock & roll records when EP wasn't

Because there are good cases for any of those pairs.

Unlike this attention seeking travesty.

Unlike you to highlight one of my threads as a 'problem'. Oh sorry, make that two.

Elvis was in Germany for the entire calendar year of 1959 as far as I know.

Elvis Presley by far. He made some decent songs and was an acceptable actor. Cliff Richard is responsible for The Millennium Prayer, the single worst song ever made, and even without that he is utterly shite in every way.

A) Who said it was a problem? I was making a point about the essential triviality of 'versus' threads. And I was genuinely unaware you had posted either of them, or that Coan had posted this one

B) Cliff's being touted as the British Elvis, as I mentioned in the rest of my earlier post that you chose not to quote, presumably on the grounds that it undermined your peeve, may be flimsy as a reason, but in my view is more structurally sound than Joni vs Chuck on the grounds that they were both songwriters who were strong lyricists, although otherwise as different as possibly could be, while James vs Jimi - well I suppose they were both US born, black and influential, but really these threads are almost always provocations or beauty contests, and never really inspire great debate, or even mediocre debate most of the time. I thought this when I first came across them on the imdb boards 15 years ago, so it's nothing to do with personal animus, and you can get off your high horse.

Actually I think these threads have been a breath of fresh air - at least people are contributing ad voting. And some of the contributions have been excellent.

I'd like to think it was a coincidence and you didn't notice those threads were started by me. History suggests otherwise.
